Re-animated

Yesterday I posted a manga version of myself ... or as close as I could get to one given the available options at Face Your Manga. Today, I re-interpret the animated me with a hand-drawn rendering. As you can see, the only thing it has in common with the manga me is the scarf.

This is several degrees of awesome. I must say, I prefer it to the manga one. You have a very distinctive way of blending colour; it's both sharp and subtle. Anyway, I like very much.

*applause*

@Fiendish It's a technique I stumbled upon quite by accident. I obsess over it quit a bit, which lengthens the process quite a bit. Sometimes I'll layer several colors on top of each other before I get the outcome I want. Applause humbly accepted :).

he he he...okay -the scarf...let me see..I like this one better...it has more "life" ..like the drawing has feelings...feelings of anxiety?? Anxious that the drawing might not appear good? (smiles)

But the artist should not be anxious at all - as ALL of his works of art are "standouts".

You've got what it takes Francis, You've made a mark of your own.

Congratulations.. my hats off to you.

This couldn't be more perfect Francis.

Hi Francis, where are the eyes? That's what I would like to focus on. The eyes are the windows of the soul.
Just came back to ask this. Thanks . Cheers.

@Jena I'm always anxious about the way my drawings turn out, but that's just my personality. And cartoon characters don't have souls ... so no reason to have a window without a view :). Actually, I was going for a the appearance of a sculpted bust, so the solid brown globes for pupils lent the quality I wanted.

@Cooper I think I'll lose the scarf in the next attempt. It makes him look a bit pretentious :).

This is very, very deep ... it caught my eye immediately so well done! Are you going to change your avatar often?
Cheers, Polly

Hi Francis, I can see you used your re animation as your EC widget. Cool. I like it than the previous one.

Way to go. All the best.

Noticed you changed your entrecard, now I see the genesis... pretty cool, but I agree about the scarf..:) I like it!

@Polly Thanks. It seemed like an appropriate avatar, and I felt like it was time for a change. I'm sure I'll change it again at some point.

@Jena The octopus was one of the first things I did when I first started drawing again, so it was a bit crude. I may have to change up my blog banner too.

@AvidReader Wearing a scarf in summer doesn't make much sense anyway :).

I dig your work, I've been checking in often since I've been back and I must say your work is amazing!

Sorry, I forgot to add that I noticed your portrait on Entrecard and knew it was yours just by the style and resemblance. Your work is unique!

@PayPerReview Thanks for the offer, but those types of reviews don't really fit with my blog's content.

@Charles Thanks ... I really appreciate the positive feedback. I'm in the midst of a major project for work, so I'm having to take a bit of a break from the blogosphere. I should be back to my old routine after Labor Day, at which point I hope to be a little more active with my commenting. I'm glad you're back stateside and I've been enjoying the great poetry at your site.

It's kind of creepy with the eyes so blank. You seem to have so much going on in your head for the eyes to be so soulless and empty.

@Laura I tend to cast myself in a harsh light, but I hope it comes across in a mostly playful way. The drawing is a bit creepy, and not very flattering, but I think that shows a good degree of humility on my part ... or maybe it's just self-loathing :).
