Doodle Week: Repose

Doodle Week wraps up with the most classic of artistic themes: Doodle Body. After another successful stint of doodling, all of the wonderful participants have earned a moment to kick back and savor the memories. For on the seventh day, we rest.

Now that is what I call relaxed :)

You have left the rude bits to our imagination I see :)

Yep, pretty sure that for this doodle, Francis let our imagination play to guess what's this doodle about :) I see a man relaxing?

It has that dreamy feel, a bit like a cloud that resembles some image (the relaxing man in this case) lit red by a low-horizon sun.

@Claire I try to maintain a kid-friendly blog :).

@Shearyadi I didn't use much ambiguity in this one did I? It's definitely a hominid of some type in repose.

@Mark I like that description very much :).

Fascinating. :)
You make contours and shadows look so easy.

I love abstract things.

What I particularly like about this is that although it has an abstract look, you can also see that it is a man relaxing. That's so clever:)

@Janna I think I may overdo the shadowing at times, but I love adding depth to surfaces. I'm partial to abstracts too, although I try to straddle the line between figurative and abstract.

@BlackCat Once you see the man relaxing, I think the abstract quality recedes. I'm you like it :).

Thanks for doodling this week. It is certainly time for repose now. :)

The thing that strikes here is that the doodled man looks rather podgy. Maybe he spends too much time in repose and not enough in the gym. :)

Or maybe that's just a reflection of myself I'm seeing.

I can see a man in recline. Not a sloth but a hardworking man in repose. Very abstract Francis. Thanks for sharing this dynamic, interactive drawing.

Cheers.

This turned out really great. Thanks for your comments on my doodles!

@Laura Thank you for co-organizing it. I'm anxiously looking forward to the next one :).

@Tam You're absolutely right about the podginess of the figure. I think he's partly morphed into the lounging furniture he's so fond of. I share Fellini's fascination with the odd form.

@Jena He's hardworking, but I think he could use a better diet and some more regular exercise.

@Elise It was fun to share doodle week with you and the other participants. And I'm always glad to toss in my inane two cents :).

If you'll be compiling your drawings, short stories and poems in one book, I'll buy one. (grins)

Francis Scudellari said...

@Suplado I hope my drawings encourages, not discourages, you to paint more ... there can never be enough art in the world.

@Jena It may have to be a few books :).

A cool doodle, abstract figurative for sure!

Looks like I feel after a good massage! Another great doodle!

After a full week of doodling, we all need a rest. Here it is Tuesday already, and I'm still exhausted.

The joy of abstract -- I see both male and female in this image, naughty bits and all. (I'm kind of afraid to confess that, knowing it reveals more about me than it does about the image. LOL)

Jena Isle said...

Hi Francis, I read Haley's comment and I can't help but smile because it is true. That is why I find your art mesmerizing. How I interpret it reflects my concepts and speaks of me too. (smiles)

An interactive, dynamic play of perceptions, beliefs and personalities.

Cheers.

And for the book(S). Well , I can buy them one at a time, right?

Thanks for sharing.

looks like a sculpture, now try and make it out of copper!

Francis Scudellari said...

@Lynda I'm a man of many contradictions :).

@Avid Maybe there needs to be a post-doodle week massage event.

@Haley The figure is intentionally a kind of blank slate, so if you see both male and female and some naughty bits, that's perfectly okay.

@Jena Thanks ... I don't know that I always successfully create that affect, but I try. One book at a time is perfectly acceptable. Maybe I'll embark on an international tour and deliver them personally :).

@Ed Copper is pretty expensive these days, but I'd love to try my hand at sculpture.

definitively repose. It's great.
Relaxed is the first word that comes to mind.

am i the only one who sees Robert Crumb's

"keep on truckin"? but a completely relaxed version :)

Francis Scudellari said...

@Cooper I do my best work when I'm relaxed ... but that's not very often :).

@Tracy There probably is a heavy dose of Crumb's influence in my drawings. Maybe I'll draw Mr. Natural next :).
