Doodle Week: Monstrosities

It's day two of Doodle Week and the suggested theme is "doodle monster." I'm quite fond of drawing strange creatures, so I did a bonus sketch for the occasion. I think they're both pretty good natured monsters, but the first has a pretty ravenous appetite.

A one-footed, one-eyed monster ... now there's a spooky coincidence.

Doodle monster 1 looks very haughty.

The first looks like a genie crossed with a rattlesnake - wonder what kind of wishes he'd grant!

@mark yeah, I think we doodle weekers are drinking the same kool aid :)

@laura I tried to make him scary, but he wouldn't cooperate.

@hanna They'd need two different stories, I think. Maybe I'll come up with a demented children's book.

@catherine Very slithery wishes, but that's true of most genies.

@shinade Doodle week was my restorative. I'll pop by soon to look at your photos.

Did you spent quite a bit of time creating your doodles? Immaculate colouring! :)

Hi Ginger,
Yes ... too much :). Actually the line drawings themselves didn't take very long, but it's the coloring over which I definitely obsess. I try to get a certain look and that takes me hours sometimes.

The brown one reminds me of a cyclops from Voyages of Sinbad or one of those films.

Both are cool and I love them :)

Thanks Claire ... there is a definite Ray Harryhausen influence. I'm sure watching those silly movies as a kid warped my mind. I'm quite fond of your doodles too. I think doodle animal will challenge me though :).

Ashish,
You can reach me at franscud@gmail.com if you'd like to send more info, but I think I may have widget overload already.

Delete Mr Ashish, he has spammed himself all over the place :)

I loved those films and my mind was already warped by the time I got to watch them :)

Glad you like my doodles and just go with the flow in regards to animal doodle :)

I'm liking the blue one best!

@claire A warped mind is a terrible thing to waste, and therein lies the beauty of Doodle Week. I'm quickly becoming a doodle Claire fan boy :).

@alison He's definitely got a sly charm about him. I've named the drawing "mixed-up alien."

We love the second monster. Great choice of colors!

I like the second one the best! But they're both great. :) I've posted my monster too... I called him Bob. =)

Hmmmm . . . we fink them monsters lives in our garage!

Francis Scudellari said...

@moki Thanks ... he seems to be the most popular of the two. I think it's because of his winning personality. The first monster is a bit stuck on himself.

@elise Bob is very cool. Reminds me a little of Where the Wild Things Are.

@kimo & sabi You might want to call an exterminator. Once you get a monster infestation, they're very difficult to remove.

Doodle Claire fan boy, now that has a ring to it :)

I'll head the US chapter :).

Very intriguing lil' monsters! I like them! Any ideas for a children's book in the offing?

Hi Lynda. Nothing concrete yet, but I'd love to do one.
